I worked on designing a bridge for my honors thesis during my last semester at Hofstra University. The proposal has a 450 ft clear span across the Harlem River that connects Randall’s Island to East Harlem in Manhattan and has a clearance of 30 ft during high tide.
My scope consisted of structural analysis of various major components of the proposed bridge. This includes the cables, deck, pylon, and many others. The analysis includes LRFD design, steel and concrete design, elastic buckling analysis, Timoshenko beam theory, and cable pretension analysis with modelling.
